12:00 PM
Lucas Matthew was born last Friday and from the moment he was born has transformed our lives, yet again, for the better. Becoming a mother 18 months ago changed my life in ways I never dreamed possible, but now with Lucas life seems even sweeter.
He was born at 2:41pm after a scheduled c-section, which was so much smoother and less traumatic than our first experience with Gabriel.
We arrived at Memorial Miramar at 11:30am, went up to the labor & delivery area and waited anxiously for the go ahead. I actually walked over to the OR and in a "matter of fact" way simply lay on the table that would soon deliver my son.
It was actually a little strange to look up at the surgical lamp because I could see the entire procedure. I can vaguely remember certain parts, but I was so eager to know what I was having I ignored what was going on and focused on hearing the baby's first cries, which came quickly and were very strong.
Jorge was beside himself from the excitement and I was so anxious to see him that I tried to move, but soon realized I wasn't going anywhere. A spinal block has that affect on a person's body I guess.
Since then we've relearned breastfeeding, which thankfully has gone very smoothly; changing tiny diapers, umbilical cord care, swaddling, 1am, 3am & 5am feedings and a myriad of other newborn necessities.
I feel like I'm on cloud 9 and know that I am very fortunate and blessed to have all these men in my life. Of course starting with Jorge who makes me so proud to be his wife and the mother of his two sons. I couldn't have asked for a better husband, friend and partner to raise these two little boys which will someday become men.
So can you tell I'm a happy camper? Anyway, if you'd read this far consider this your invitation to come meet the little booger. Lucas will be in our lives forever, but he'll only stay small for so long so make sure you come over and meet the newest member of Moratoville.
